When is the best time to visit Algeria?
The best overall time to visit Algeria is autumn to spring — roughly October to April — when temperatures across the north and the Sahara are comfortable. The deep Sahara is best from October to March; high summer (June–August) is very hot in the south but fine on the Mediterranean coast.
For most travellers, October to April is the sweet spot: the northern cities, the Roman sites and the coast are pleasant, and the Sahara is comfortable rather than punishing.
- Sahara (Djanet, Tassili, the M’Zab, Timimoun): best October to March. Days are warm and clear, nights cool. Avoid June–August, when desert heat is extreme.
- Coast and cities (Algiers, Oran, Béjaïa): lovely in spring and autumn; summer is warm and good for the Mediterranean.
- Mountains (Kabylie, the Aurès): green in spring; some high areas see snow in winter.
