Tourism infrastructure and ease

Morocco has decades of tourism behind it: abundant riads, guides, and a well-trodden Marrakech–Fes–Sahara circuit. Algeria is lighter — fewer hotels, less English, and the deep south needs a licensed operator. Morocco is the easier choice for independent first-timers; Algeria rewards those who plan ahead.

Roman heritage

No contest for ruins: Algeria wins. Timgad and Djémila are among the best-preserved Roman cities anywhere and you’ll often have them nearly to yourself. Morocco’s Volubilis is lovely but singular.

The Sahara
