How long does an Algeria visa take?

Quick answer

Processing times vary widely by consulate and season, from about two weeks to well over a month. Apply as early as your consulate allows, and never book non-refundable flights before the visa is in your passport. Applications are usually slowest in summer and before major holidays.

There is no single national processing time for an Algerian tourist visa, because each embassy and consulate handles its own caseload. In practice travellers report anything from about two weeks to more than a month, and the same consulate can be fast in March and slow in July.

Several things push a file to the slow end: applying in peak summer, when the diaspora travel season floods every Algerian mission; applying just before a major holiday; submitting an incomplete file, which usually means the consulate sets it aside rather than contacting you; and applying from a country where you are not a citizen or permanent resident.

The practical rule that saves people money is simple: do not buy non-refundable flights until the visa is physically in your passport. Consulates routinely require a confirmed itinerary, which creates a chicken-and-egg problem — the usual solution is a held or refundable booking, or a booking made through your operator that can be moved.

When you travel with us we prepare the invitation letter, the confirmed programme and the accommodation details in the format consulates expect, which removes the most common cause of delay: a file that has to be returned for missing paperwork.
